Machine Lights – Revival from the industrial age

Machine Lights Frank Buchwald

Frank Buchwald is a Berlin based designer whom has created this inspiring series of lamps, the idea he says was developed over many years of dealing with the nature of modern technology, especially the mechanical artifacts of the industrial age.

Machine Lights Frank Buchwald

A common mistake of our time is the belief that machines are solely products and artifacts of human planning, design, and manufacture. Working on the machine lights was for me a guarantor and a constantly new examination of something hidden that interweaves and shapes the sphere of the machine like a secret principle…

Buchwald also notes that the models were not simply a spontaneous moment of realisation and inspiration, but rather a long process. It took a long time until the moment was reached in which it could be said that the objects had a meaningful form and the designs were moving in the right direction.

Buchwald has captured the raw energy and excitement of industrialization, and has bundled it into these desktop sized, mechanical objects.

This is just a small sample of Buchwald’s work.. for more creative inspiration visit FrankBuchwald.de

Captain Feline – Blending Pop Culture with Cats

felineship

Captain Feline employs anthropomorphism to blend pop culture with cats. The results are a collection of fun t-shirts and limited edition art prints – purr-fect for displaying a combined love of cats and cult movie characters! Whilst the debut t-shirt illustrations by Dave are inspired by cult and classic movie characters, the team plan to increase the range to feature other pop culture icons as they grow and expand.

A unique CD package – Wandering Pleiades

DSC_4700

Pleiades is a Greek-speaking folk polyphonic singing female group. The group was founded in May 2006 in Thessaloniki, in order to contribute to the diffusion of the Greek-speaking folk polyphonic singing.

Kostas Bartsokas designed their first album “Wandering Pleiades”. The cd package is designed from a single cut craft stock without the use of any glue or plastic parts. It was printed with pantone black and white. The package is inspired by their clean – vocal only – music and reflects an earthly and clean tone which is emphasized by the stock color and feel. The six Pleiades sit underneath the bridge and sing their songs. The artwork references the old bridges of Epirus and some traditional patterns of Epirotic knit ware.
